the Author: Vese ‘Wolu Aghoghovbia

Philly & Friends was inspired by my then 17-month-old daughter. I wanted to create a diverse children’s character she and kids everywhere can love and identify with. One who is strong, confident and happy, goes on adventures, as curious as George, laughs from within and loves wholeheartedly with tight hugs and lots of kisses.

I was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Later moving to England, I attended A-levels in Bristol and then moved on to Imperial College London, where I graduated with a Master of Engineering degree. Following the birth of my daughter, I began to explore my passion for building confidence in children.

I love writing and see it as an avenue to uplift, encourage and challenge young people. My goal is to empower the next generation to love and believe in themselves. This has led me to the launching of Philly & Friends, a children’s brand created to promote positive values while helping underprivileged children around the world.

I am a co-founder of DVees, a food & drinks startup dedicated to pioneering West African flavours. I am also a founding member of The Aghoghovbia Foundation, set up to empower the girl child and Inspiring Role Models, a social enterprise dedicated to helping others achieve their dreams.

I reside in London with my husband, daughter and son.
